    Millbrook 8 Sanderson 7

Great game last night between Cap 7 rivals. Although the Spartans are down this year, they battled conference co-leader Millbrook down to the final out.

Down 3-0 early, the Sanderson boys came back to tie it up at 3-3. Then after falling behind 8-4, they closed back to 8-7 with a 3 run 5th. The Spartans gave themselves a shot in the 7th by getting out of a jam with runners on 2b and 3b with no outs in the bottom of the 6th. They induced a groundout to 1B with the infield in, holding the runner at 3b, then senior reliever Jon King racked up two consecutive K's to end the inning...the 2nd as the runner from from 3b was attempting to steal home .

The leadoff batter reached in the top of the 7th for Sanderson, but hats off to Millbrook for making two very nice defensive plays to end the game. They managed to get the lead runner at 2b on a sac bunt attempt for the 1st out...great reaction and throw by the pitcher. Millbrook ended the game by turning a slick 6-4-3 double play.

It was a lot of fun watching good baseball by both teams on a chilly night in Raleigh.

    Providence vs. Butler

Just clicked on the link to check out the Prov. vs Butler game at 8:36pm and it was already over.....talk about a fast game. I think there was 6 hits combined, if I am reading that right. So much for the extra inning battles that have run rampant in the SW4A this year!
