    Lumberton/Ashley

Technically a tie as the the teams were tied at 2. Lumberton led 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh when rain wasked out play. Reverts back to the 2-2 tie. I wasn't aware of this rule. Anyway, a great game with great pitching and just enough big hits to scratch across a few runs. Both of these teams are poised to do well in the playoffs.

That is correct if they arent going to finish it, evidently it was played at Ashley. If they plan to finish it, it is a suspended game and they pick up play at the point of calling the game.

    Hopewell 13 Vance 3 (5 innings)

WP - Dusty White (5-2) LP - Ryan Kirkman

Not the best defensive game for either team, with both Hopewell and Vance having 6 errors per team. White allowed 5 hits. Kirkman pitched effectively for Vance, but Vance couldn't generate enough offense to offset their defensive struggles. Leading hitters for Hopewell - Matt Cochran went 2-2 (3B, 2 rbi's); Dusty White went 2-3 (2B) and Zack Turton went 2-3 (5 rbi's). For Vance, Hill went 2-3. Kirkman continues to be a miracle to watch. The kid has so much determination and heart, along with talent. His determination and love of the game are such an inspiration. He is truly a miracle in action and very worth of our respect.

This was a huge game with playoff implications, but I can't believe both teams went ten innings with their aces. I hope that won't come back to haunt them. That is a lot of pitching in one night! Both of these guys are control guys and maybe their pitch counts weren't that high, but with the number of strikeouts recorded it sounds like a ton of pitches were thrown. I'd be surprised if they didn't average at least 12-15 pitches an inning, which means 120-150 pitches, plus warming up before the game and between innings 10 times. My arm is sore just thinking about it. Anyway, sounds like it was a great game, too bad either team had to lose.

    NPC Update: K-Town - Mooresville

    After 4 innings all knotted at 2 - 2.

Garrett Sherrill came on in the 4th in relief of Bryan Little and got out of a base-loaded 1-out jam.

Matt Skidmore was pitching for Mooresville and looked sharp.

A Village Idiot update is imminent........
