    McDowell skids

Just like last year the titans started the season with a lot of promise. This is a team that beat providance day at home and then lost to south caldwell:thud: {no disrespect intended to south but they came into the game what 5-11}.I don't know what is wrong with McDowell, maybe its the team chemestry, they seem to hustle and try but at times they can't buy a basket I believe they will surprise some teams in the second half though now that they will be the spoilers instead of the favorites.

The call during the MHS game last night was just crazy. How do you forget who has the ball after a timeout. Coach Church told the refs that he called timeout after reynolds had made a basket. Anyway it did not cost anyone the game, but calls like that should never happen. They are also inconsistent with there calls. A player will get called for a touch foul and then on the next play someone will get hammered and there is no call. Something else that concerns me is all the meetings these refs will have during a game to overturn a call. There will be a foul called under the basket, but not by the ref that is in position to call it. Instead the ref at halfcourt will make the call. David Brown (the ref during the Reynolds/MHS) is probably the best in the league. His only problem is he always gets stuck calling with 2 other refs that are terrible and this makes him look bad.

you know Tony, I made a comment a couple weeks ago that the first McDowell/East Burke matchup would make or break McDowell's season. Well, I didn't know it was going be this bad? Ever since Davenport laid in that shot to win the game, the McDowell Titans have gone straight to the toilet. They lose to South and to Freedom and then lose to Reynolds. The Titans are now 8-10 on the season, by far the worst record that a McDowell squad has put out in the 17 years that Church has been coach at MHS. It will be interesting to see if the two seniors on this team (Evans and Greene) decides to take the reigns and get this team back on track. Senior leadership could turn this thing around. We'll see how it goes.

I agree David does a great job. :agreed:
Four other refs that do a great job are Kerry Miller, Darryl Cook, Eddie Simmons and Tim Rhoney. :woot: (Tim does not call NW4A games right now because of his daughter playing at EB)

Thanks guys for a job well done. :five: Now just get the rest of your co-workers up to speed.

We won't mention names of the refs that need to hang up the whistle!!

I am kinda interested in the opinion of the "in the know" fans here if there are officials out there you just cringe when you see them calling a game. I know we have kinda strayed off topic here, but its very intresting.

Also, I agree on David Brown being a very professional referee. Fact is, I think he might be a better baseball umpire than basketball referee. No matter what the sport is though, you never hear about a game involving him getting out of control.

It is sad that there isn't a accountability program for officials.

Crest jumped out to a 24-3 lead and never looked back as they beat the Red Raiders. Crest was led by Jared Maddox with 21, Brandon Spikes had 14, an Arthie Phillips added 11. Crest is now 11-5 on the season and 4-2 in Big South play. Crest will travel to Ashbrook Friday for a big game with the Green Wave.
