    I know why UNC is called the Tar Heels

    It's because during the Civil War at one of the famous battles where the Union was blasting the Confederacy, a lot of the soldiers from the southern states ran like little girls.

    The general (forgot which one) made the claim that the North Carolina soldiers stood strong, bravely staying and fighting like they had tar on their heels, rather than being cowards like the others.

    South Carolina Gamecocks:1971 Champs

    All this talk about South Carolina is bringing back bad memories from the 1971 ACC Basketball Championship. Could someone explain to me how a 6ft 3in player (Kevin Joyce) can out-jump a 6ft 10in center (Lee Dedmon).
    I'm still p----- off about that finish.:furious3:
