They sound very talented but a 9th grader throwing it mid-80's is extremely rare.

I agree. Griffin played with the 2010 Dirtbags this Fall. From what I heard, he looked pretty good. Mayhew played with the Rockies this Fall.

    Griffin

I coached him one weekend this summer with the younger Dirtbag team. The kid is going to be special. Tremendous arm speed. He is definite mid 80's guy and his fb has alot of life on it. He has a nice cb and a decent change up. This kid is only a 9th grader folks. He reminds me alot of Chris Luck at that age but he is just not as tall right now. You can not teach the kind of arm speed this young man has. He is a tough competitor of the hill as well. Very athletic kid he can really run for his age. He would be a varsity starter on the hill at many programs. Hes going to be very very good.

the "middle school" program has been in effect for about 3-4 years now. it is actually ran through the little league programs but for the middle school kids and teams. they are doing a great job with this in most areas. southwest ll actually supports 2 teams from the local middle schools. great coaches are involved (even though they have to volunteer their time). it might not be perfect but it sure beats what we had, which was nothing. the competition is pretty good, and good baseball is being played.

ps: yes both of the kids mentioned have great potential:iagree:

There was a kid that moved into Winston-Salem last year as a freshman and goes to Reagan High School. Throws the ball in the low to mid 80 as a freshman and hit the ball like a senior player. Austin Blake made a big splash last year with all conference honors hitting for ave. and distance and was honored with Hanover, G.Holt, Munnelly, Dull and others as the best in the metro area. This year should be a presence on the mond as well as at the plate.

    compare to NW4a

Not to put these kids down or anything but a pitcher throwing mid to low eighties in nw4a ball with no pitches that will greatly vary the speed will get worked. Having watched teams like south caldwell and ac reynolds these last few years i have noticed that the level of play in this conference is very high.

These kids will probly do great in their conference though and surprisingly at a young age. Hopes for a good season.
