Fili is going to get the job but they have to open up the doors to outside interviews because of some random NC public school thing. Any state school in NC would have to at least go through the motions to interview candidates.

also heard WCU's AD is not a baseball fan. Sat through 2 innings at the chapel hill regional and left because he had a lot of work to do back at the hotel. Probably makes the hiring process a little less ambitious. Just get it over with.

Lastly, Jack Leggett's fingers are very long. The AD at UT was once the associate AD at Clemson. Now he has a three man staff of all former Clemson guys at UT. This is the second job Jack has personally seen to that Raleigh get, including Western.

    Raleigh to WCU

First thing, my personal opinion is that UT hired a great coach in TR. I didn't play for him or have kids that played for him, but I have known him forever and he would be my first choice in a college coach for my son.

Filipek is a great recruiter, but who hired him? Raleigh? Lecroy is a great asst coach and recruiter, who hired him? Raleigh? To be a great coach, I don't care who you are, you have to surround yourself with great people and he was smart enough to do that, makes him pretty smart.

As far as number of wins, this is a university with nothing to sell in my opinion, as far as surrounding attractions, etc....but somehow he got good, quality players and fielded quality teams that were always in the hunt, all this on what might have been the lowest budget in the SOCON. Football and basketball wished they could say the same thing at WCU.

As far as not accomplishing anything without Smith this year, not to take anything away from him or his accomplishments, but maybe he had that type of year because of coaching he got this year. Nothing at UNCW ever led anyone to believe a dream season like this would be in store did it. I know I thoroughly enjoyed getting to witness it, never have I seen a kid come to the plate every at bat with so much confidence, was fun to watch.

TR's has players drafted every year, graduate every year, and alot that go onto become coaches. He must do something right.

As far as new coaches, yes baseball grabs the hind teet at WCU, but even going out and searching for a new baseball coach, I don't think they would ever find anyone better than Coach Filipek or Lecroy. I hope one of them gets the job.

Olefty, do you base that info on speculation or do you have it on authority?Filly could help deliver the current recruits since he is the one who courted them. I understand the incomming freshmen are all baseball studs.

I can assure you that olefty does not speculate. If he says it, you can take it to the bank.

lecroy is already going to UT with Raleigh. So he is out of that picture. The other new UT coach is a clemson guy too but forgot his name. that's what I meant about having three new clemson guys at UT. they are all leggett guys and he is seeing to it that they go there together.

Let me refrain- If Fili doesn't get the job then someone who isn't even in the picture and I would not speculate about it would put in their hat for the job.

canofcorn- I appreciate your question and I am certain of these things.

Braves- My number one goal right now is seeing my big righty get healthy and have the college career he deserves.

Kevin, some on here have had bad feelings towards Raleigh for a while. Don't know why because he has been successful. He has recruited a couple of WH kids, which is more than I can say about past coaches there. And yes, he was very personally involved in their recruitment, not just the assistant. Smith did have a breakout season under Raleigh, something that he was unable to accomplish at UNCW, so you have to give some credit as much as it pains some to do so.

There are many players and supporters of the program, past and present, that would love to give their view, but I would prefer they don't. There is no point in having TBR become the whipping place.

I wish Coach Raleigh success at UT.

I am sure that contributed. No one can dispute that Coach Smith in an excellent teacher of the game.
