Just heard on the news that a minor league team in Canada traded a pitcher to a team in Texas. Cost...10 maple bats. Only good thing is that the bats will break, hopefully the pitcher will have a long career.

    Braves Pitcher

Here is a similar story... The Atlanta Braves catcher when they first started their run of division titles was a guy named Greg Olson. He was replaced by Javy Lopez a few years later and got into managing in the independent league. He called Bobby Cox and told him he had a pitcher that was ready for the Braves as a reliever right away. Bobby had him flown down and after watching him pitch signed the kid to the big league team. Bobby called Greg and asked him want he wanted to get his contract. Greg asked for a few dozen balls and about 10 new wood bats!

Oh yeah - the pitcher? Kerry Lightenburg who went on to play in the bigs for about 5 years.
