    No Doubt....

I also agree, the runner didn't touch the plate, before being tagged, got hand above plate, after being tagged and then touched plate, barely, but oh well! The ump last night was pretty consistant, pretty acurate too! Yeah, Ralph should have seen that change up in his dreams! My heart went out to Ralph the most, he was in that dugout looking like he needed a back door to use! You got to give TM credit, that is one FINE change-up! She threw it 6 straight times last night and they just stood and looked at it, or couldn't catch it! Has anybody else noticed, when TM throws those balls in the dirt? I noticed that it always happened when there was a runner at first! Go figure, it might be intentional! Because Balko does have an excellent cannon! Also anybody else noticed Tenn (mentally talking to their bats)! It is like they are begging their bat to do their thing! Didn't work last night but hopefully will work tonight!
If Tenn will bring the bats tonight, they win! But it is hard to count Ariz out, they have a lot of fight in them! Of course if Tenn does win they will say it is because Ariz had to play so much harder a schedule than Tenn! But the last 3 games were between Tenn & Ariz! They just have a hard time giving a team this far east, credit! Hopefully tonight they will have no choice!
I know it has been some great softball being played, exciting to the last out!
    Go Lady Vols!!!

    LOOKED LIKE-BUT DON'T THINK SO !!!

I have studied and studied the slide and still believe even after the runner reached the second time I still don't think she touched the plate...very difficult to tell....GURU

If it is hard for us...

I guess we should remember, if it is hard for us, with slow motion & replay, then maybe it was tough for the ump in real time! I don't know!

    TN Hitting Process

If you'll notice, a lot of the TN players, before stepping in to hit, loosen their shoulders up, hold the bat in front of them and take a deep breath while staring at the bat; part of their mental process and relaxation. You watch Abott and she has a process as well on the mound, little mental steps to relax and stay clear. The team has seen a sports psychologist as part of their “practices/team concept” throughout the last few years and a lot of little things like that has been implemented in them to keep them relaxed. Lowe from AZ does something similar to that as well. Candrea has used the psychologist with his teams and the USA Team as well. Weekly's and Candrea all come from the same "USA" thinking and background. If I had the money, my kids would definitely be involved with that type of mental work. Used them in college before and it is very helpful. Just gets the kids to a better, more confident place. But I guarantee you they are not begging or talking to their bats, there are going through their process of relaxation / mental calming and clearing of the mind. Doepking, Huff, Horiuchi all use that technique. Some of the others have different little things they do (Callahan does a little different version of this) and it is all to help clear the head and relax. I have also seen some of their pinch hitters or other starters with the same approach. You have never seen a consistent good hitter or timely hitter that is tight at the plate be successful. If you have followed the team all year or beyond, you would see that these hitters do this all the time, not just last night. They keep it consistent so not to elevate one at bat beyond another and the focus for them is "one moment, one game, one pitch, one out, one at bat," etc. That is a big part or their team motto when they play.

As for home plate play, man I cannot tell if she got the very tip of the plate. She does not have batting gloves on so her hand blends with the dirt and the angle of the tag is tough to see. I thought she was out and was yelling at the TV too Mama Duck =) ....BUT, if your TN, you cannot load the bases with 0 outs and not push one right? TN had so many chances just like AZ did in the very first game they played in the second round of the WCWS that knocked AZ to the losers bracket. AZ out hit them and had plenty of chances, but TN got the break with the error on Mesa to win it. Tables turned last night; TN out hit them, but a lead off hit and error hurt them. They are usually ready, but Balko sneaky bunting with one out threw them and I think Posey was late getting there. Great read by Candrea. Lets hope they figure out what pitch they are going to sit on tonight and win. Pitchers like TM are the toughest to hit as a batter, you just do not know when she will throw that pitch, any count, anytime and it is 16-20mph difference in speeds, NASTY. GO VOLS!!!!!!
