Guess I didn't want any kind of "daddyball" PERCIEVED for my kid. People see what they want, I HAVE found that out. So I just wanted to remove all doubt. but I do wonder sometimes if I'm doing an injustice to her and the other kids I've coached over the years that are there by NOT being more involved. I THINK I have things to offer to kids who truely want to play the game right. I have studied the game and asked questions and feel I know a little about the game. But its hard just to sit back and watch the ball rolled out, lineups with no rhyme or reason..... no structure, no plan, just get the game over. We do have one parent who helps but sorry to say hes forgot more than the "coach" but gets NO SUPPORT from the "coach" and ignores feedback. .....I've probably said enough. better shut up. i guess as a parent and former coach, you just want as much or more put into the program from a PAID coach than you got from a volunteer. I'm out. going back to beat my head against the wall.

In these type situations, and there are far too many of them, yes, you are doing the ladies an injustice by not helping if you are allowed to. People are going to think what they think whether you give them a reason to or not. It all comes down to the greater good. It's about the girls, we all say that and it rolls off the tounge so well. Too bad as a softball community, it's just that in many cases, talk. For some of these girls, the only time they will be supported, made special and believed in, is at the ball field. Don't let that opportunity pass.

I agree that there are probably more parents that know more about the game than about 75% of the hs coaches and 40% of those wont except any help from anybody. I also think if qualified parent can get the coach to let them help then help but it will be better in the long run if it's done at practice and not in the game. I called pitches for my dd in travel ball up thru her first year of 14u and after that I wanted someone else doing it because I didn't want her thinking she had to have me. Even now I think I could call them better but I think it's better for her in the long haul. again jmho

    Here's a situation.

I have been coaching now for 13 years. My dd has been on every team. It didn't take me long to figure out that I couldn't or shouldn't "coach" my dd. So, one of the other coaches would always "coach" her. Now, I still coach HS softball as a volunteer assistant. The head coach is a volunteer as well. We both had dd's on the team at the same time. Mine is now in her freshman year of college ball. His is a senior. It has worked out very well for both of us and the team. The point I am getting at is parents can be in the dugout coaching and it be successful. We have never been accussed of daddyball and never intend for that to happen.
