Well, that's what happened: Alumni donated money for capital improvement on the baseball field, but CMS wouldn't allow it, unless.........

I remember a similar situation being referenced in a school district in Anderson County, SC. One school had the donors to improve the fields, but they were not be allowed unless they improved both schools in that district.

At our school, there is a pooled, all-sport booster club. Each team gets one fundraiser from which they get all the proceeds. Any other fundraisers goes into the general booster club fund, from which all teams draw based on a budget approved each year. AFAIK, there is no restriction about having to share any of it with other schools. However, I don't think we're talking about a quarter-million dollar budget, either.

I think gate receipts to the school fund, but concessions go into this fund, as well as corporate sponsorships, etc.

You may have something here. Play DH and have the marching band, color guard, cheerleaders perform between games. That will give teams with limited pitching a break also. Make it a 2 1/2 hour break and you might even get in a soccer match.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

NOW THAT IS THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX!!

Our school also requires all monies to be pooled in one collective pot for distribution "equally" among all of the sports as decided by the booster club. I asked our AD about fund raisers for equipment for the softball team and was told that any money we raised would have to go in the general fund. The following year football and wrestling sold dicount cards to raise money for "travel expenses"!! Guess what sports the AD coaches??? :)

We now have anonymous donations of equipment, when needed, to go along with the $300 we are allocated for balls and equipment annually.

I still vote for the double headers and the optional entertainment on Saturdays!

    "Peace, Love, Dope!"

the problem is that today's bureaucrats/elected officials see any lump of money as theirs to do with what they like... The NC Legislature and the Highway Trust Fund or "Aunt Bev" and the "Education Lottery" profits are just two examples that local "politicos" have learned from. "See it... Take it!"

I watched a movie last night about Jim Morrison and the "Doors". It was an interesting look back at the "counter culture of the late '60's and early '70's. I started thinking about it, and today's situation, and came to the realization that no wonder things are so screwed up... those are the people that are running things today... maybe our problems are due to these folks having bad flashbacks from their "acid" trips

    whose the dope?

I don't think Jim was anymore different then what you see today. He was a musician/poet who burned out on his genius and wealth, just like Michael Jackson and Elvis. They are not the reason why things are so screwed up as you say, they are a microcosm of society. I think what people are tired of is living by martial law with no way out. JMHO.

Who's the dope? If you voted for these people, look in the mirror!

The "dopes" are the ones who keep electing these people. Hold them accountable next time you're in the voting booth!

Obviously, we are talking here about how things affect high school athletics. The way our government has been doing business though has been a detriment to many other facets of our lives for a while. Higher taxes and fees while at the same time less, and poorer, services have become the norm. With the down turn in the economy, these shortcomings are now cutting in to stuff we enjoy, such as high school athletics.

Ask a small business owner how much the "guvment" helps him succeed... then ask him to donate to your high school program because the school system is cutting funding. The truth is he'll probably help you out because he still believes in the "Dream".
