cribabies, i think what has happened is the rubbing it in the face you get from the coaches when you play cc that has alot of people riled up. the players are fantastic but sometimes when a person tries to intimidate you by words and actions it gets under your skin. some say that is part of the game, i say let the players win the game not your antics. but to each is on. i also don't think the teaching of game situations or "athletic pe" is legal either but it is status quo at alot of schools also.:twocents:

    So softball really is life?

So I am just asking to make sure: there are parents out there that would actually pick up their family, belongings, basically their life, etc and move their residence to another school district solely for a daughter to play HS softball at a certain school??

WHY IS SOFTBALL ANY DIFFERENT THAN FOOTBALL,BASEBALL AND BASKETBALL ? THERE ARE FAMILIES THAT MOVE IN EVERY COUNTY, EVERY STATE. THERE ARE BASKETBALL PLAYERS GOING TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS TO PLAY FOR BETTER COACHES. IF YOU LIVE IN CHARLOTTE MECK SCHOOL SYSTEM AND YOU ARE GOOD IN FOOTBALL YOU GO TO INDEPENDANCE. SO I GUESS TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION , I GUESS FOR SOME PARENTS LIFE IS SPORTS FOR YOU KIDS.

cant speak for the other schools, but i dont know of one person who has moved into the km district to play softball. these girls started playing travel ball at age 10-11 and tried to stay together.

    jumping here & there

we don't like this teacher so let's get another one / we don't like this church so let's go to another one, we don't like this job so let's get another one, we don't like this car so let's get another one. we DO like this school but they have a bad coach so let's transfer to this other school and move our life to a place we don't know anybody but they have a great girls softball coach that wins and maybe I can make all-conference. !

its called freedom of choice and whether its right or whether its wrong it is still our freedom to make the decision we want to. The idea that our daughter or any athlete is going to be discovered/get ahead/get a scholarship/etc. at the athletic equivalent of SCHWAB"S DRUG STORE in this day and age is absurd.

The real difference in softball or other team sports and and individual sport is that how good you are is a totally SUBJECTIVE process, in other words it is someone else who decided if you have any ability to play. When I played college golf a little over 20 years ago my score is what decided how good a player I was. I could challenge for the number 1 spot anytime I wanted to and if I beat the guy then I played number one in the next tournament... same goes for tennis.

We have all experienced it... I had a coach come to me this past summer and relate to me exactly what type of hit and where it was on the field when my daughter had her first at bat on his team... from two years ago. Of course, this coach raves about her ability today .... does this show the value of a first impression? I could give you several stories that would curl your hair on the baseball side about players who were overlooked and later found by another scout. How many great players were NEVER "discovered"? We will never know the answer to this question.

Don't punish kids who have parents who only want the best for them. We all know kids with talent and ability who could play in college but do not have the support at home to make a real run at it... many of them have dropped out of the travel ball scene... if they ever even made it there in the first place.

    be true to your school............

I guess this old time song from the 60's?? is no longer applicable in the world of HS softball!!!

Support for Ol' East of Raleigh...

Not that EoR asked for it, but I sure agree with what he says!

Save the money that you would spend moving into a school district and apply it to your travel ball endeavors! And, if you have that much money, send some to ol' Double Dog Dare....there's always demand for extra cash in my house!

And...for the record, I still think the scholarships come from travel ball, showcase tournaments, and relationships as opposed to high school ball.
Frankly, I think high school ball is played for fun....and is overrated, especially given the quality of most of the coaching. I think the college scouts know this and don't put a whole lot of credence in the results of high school softball games. Just an opinion.....
(but I sure do like going to high school games!)
