a 9 year old beginning fastpitch player need? Is it like baseball, where an infielder needs a smaller glove or because the ball is slightly bigger. a fastpitch player needs a slightly bigger glove? She's played baseball the last two years and is making the switch to fastpitch this year. Thanks for your help!

Since the softball is smaller for a 10 & Under (Assuming That Is What She Is Playing )...probably a 11",but I don't know how big her hand is so it wouldn't be fair to size the glove by guessing !!! Usually any girl over 10 unless she is tiny would go to a minium 12" glove size, and size would warrant a larger glove if need be. Again I don't know if your DD is small framed or a larger frame kid !!! Rule of thumb doesn't always fit baseball vs. softball because of the ball size. But yes the shorter gloves for infield, and longer gloves for outfield !!!

Short answer....as big as she can handle. I've seen smaller, but more athletic girls that could adeptly use a glove that made them look like they were holding a peach basket. Same a choosing a bat size. In this instance, bigger is better, but only if they can manage it without impacting performance. Let the coach make the call. Parents seem to over estimate the DD's ability in these kind of things.

Also depends on position. If an outfielder maybe a larger glove with open webbing to aid in catching fly balls. As a shortstop i always liked a smaller glove to get a better feel of the ball. Didn't need a big ole glove that i would have to search around in for the ball. Gloves are something that should be researched more when you are looking for them. There are specific gloves for specific players (other than firstbase and catchers mitts)

    Not Much Help :

    Size:
Generally, smaller gloves are preferred by infielders while larger gloves are for outfielders. Commonly referred to as the gloves’ “pattern”, it is a measure of a gloves’ overall length in inches. Today’s gloves are so specialized that even within the same glove type you can get different sizes.
For example, if you happen to be a big person that plays shortstop, you’ll want to look at gloves made for middle infielders but choose the glove with a large pattern.

    Okay??????

    Fit Your Hand!!!!!.....

....and forget about the size of the glove. Wow! Wilson used to make a glove...and I'm sure other manufac. still do as well, one that has an adjustible strap over the back side of the wrist. 2. A hard pan, non worn in glove will never work. Look around, TBR has bookoos of members that their DDs gloves have been outgrown and could be "the" one. I'll check around myself. PM me and we'll go from there. And last but not least, A MUST, get your DD a couple or 3 of the cool cheap gigs that teach hand/eye fileding tech. 1. A rubber ball attached to a bungie cord is awesome. 2. There is a gig that is a flat pad that a kid places on her hand and it teaches "two" hands. 3. Theres a ball that looks like something in chemistry class with nodules all over it, that will bounce in all directions. 4. Teach the proper technique of fielding. All of these will make a DD better, not the glove.
