Bottom of 7th, two outs, nobody on, game tied at 3. Your pitcher has been in all game and is looking good.

#3 batter ropes a shot to the gap for a double. #4 batter steps into the box. What would you do?

Just a side note, I hesitated posting this since it happened in a real game over the weekend. For those of you that know which game I am talking about (please do not mention the teams or the coaches), I am in NO WAY trying to second guess the coaches or the decisions they made. I just love the strategy side of the game and wanted to see what others would do in this situation.

Put the no 4 batter on base and stay with my pitcher, focusing on inside pitches to force at third or looking for bunts and taking it to third. i've always hesitated pulling pitchers in seventh inning, especially after they've tossed a good game to that point. good pitchers will step it up under pressure and one mistake doesnt mean the pitcher is toast. jmho

I would take the pitcher out; they know her by this point in the game.

Number 4 batter, throw a little offspeed inside for a couple of quick strikes; couple outside off the plate, then inside again.

How has 4 been handling the pitcher??? We had a particular game last year where the 3 hitter was killing us and the 4 hitter had struck out 3 times. (and had that look that she didn't want back in that box) Team won on a throwing error, as the 4 hitter was waiting to come to bat with 2 outs. I was wanting No.4 in the box.

I guess what I'm saying is every situation is different.

Leave her in !!! Confidence is the one thing that you cannot teach a pitcher it is earned on the mound.

the obvious answer is to put the #4 hitter on as her run means nothing and its sets up the force at 3rd and 2nd.

other factors that could change this:

    - what have the #4 and #5 hitters done previously in the game against my pitcher and in seasons past.

    - how much do I know about the #4 hitter generally

    - does she want to be the hero

    - is she prone to chase balls out of the zone or will she take a walk if she doesnt get her pitch

    - how much do i know about the #5 hitter

    - how tired is my pitcher

    - is my pitcher a control pitcher or a power pitcher

    - how has her control been in this inning and in the few innings prior

I may prefer to pitch to the #4 batter depending on how these questions answer.
