Only time I have parents helping me is for heavy duty stuff and Im watching them with a close eye. I hate when parents try to help and then they mess up. For example dragging the field when its wet. They dont realize that it will leave a dip.

Most of our parents are fairly baseball savvy and know what it takes to maintain a field properly. The parents help out on projects that the coaches ask for help on. For example, we recently removed a fence and replaced a speaker box. During these small projects, the coaches were running practice.

Bigger projects included sodding the practice infield with sod that was removed prior to construction of a new parking lot. This effort was a team effort so coaches, parents and players got involved.

What is sad when you read the comments about a practice infield, is that South Meck has had a practice infield for at least 5-6 years right at their hitting cages and this year it was abandoned, has now become over grown and not recognizable as a practice area, in favor of trying to practice both varsity and jv at the same time on the same space. I thought simple math would indicate that two fields would mean twice as many reps.

practice infield - baseball lingo for a piece of property large enough to layout a regulation size infield to allow a team to practice infield and running drills.

This area was basically a large weed field that our coaches took the initiative to make use of. The school system had leveled it out when the school was built but it needed allot of work. They had the foresight to cut sod from a soccer field that was being destroyed and make good use of it. THIS project took numerous weekends to complete with the coaches, the players and parents all chipping in to make it happen. What a great example of an unselfish use of time!! And isn't this part of the focus of this thread?

Oh yea....we also have a trailer that we use for a consession stand and a folding table as our pressbox!!

I know all about folding tables for press boxes.

I do the announcing when I am able to get home from school (and did it the one year I went to community college) and I'm at a folding table right behind home plate. Everyone can see me, everyone can bug me, and all of that. I generally miss a batter a game because someone's asking me something. A lot of times I'm doing the announcing, the music, the scoreboard, AND people are wanting to ask me stuff.
