I know everyone knows about Madison Bumgarner and Justin Poovey from up this way but there are some other '07 grads to keep an eye out for.

Shane Clawson - South Caldwell - This guy is the prototype baseball player in my eyes. Solid as a rock. Plays centerfield like he owns it. Great swing. Pretty good speed to have the muscle mass he's got. Can flat out punish a baseball. Batted .319 for Post 29 in his first regular season with them.

Josh Shehan - South Caldwell - As far as middle infielders go, his range is unbelievable. Hes under 6-foot but solid and quick as a cat and he too can knock a baseball out of anywhere he plays. He batted .356 in his first season with Post 29.

Bradley Craig - South Caldwell - Terrific firstbaseman. He bails out infielders like no other firstbaseman I have seen lately. He is 6'2 maybe taller and when hes on, hes got a picture perfect swing and hits the ball to the outfield gaps very well.

Zach Merrikan - Newton-Conover - Great catcher and for Post 29 this year showed he could pitch some too. Hes like Shane Clawson that he is hard nosed and hits with power to all fields.

Josh Severt - South Caldwell - Lefthanded pitcher and outfielder. Hes got a ton on raw talent.

Daniel Coffey - South Caldwell - Good fielder, better hitter. I saw him take control of a couple games this year at the plate when I thought South Caldwell was about to lose. I hate he didn't play for Post 29 this year, he would have been a terrific option.

There is a wealth of talent in Caldwell County right now. These are just the few that come to mind from my desk at work. I apologize, I know I am leaving out some of the players I wanted to mention. I know there are some great West Caldwell and Hibriten players as well, but with all the South playoff games and Legion games I have seen this summer, these are the guys that are quiet and potentially huge players in the making.

I agree with DownSouth's list of players to keep an eye out for in 2007. I want to reiterate how impressed I am with Shane Clawson from South Caldwell. You can hear this guy chattering on every pitch that is thrown while he is playing Centerfield for Post 29. He is the sparkplug for Post 29 and seems to fire the team up with his presence. Some college is going to be very fortunate to get this young man. I've seen a lot of guys with talent go through this area but Shane has a tremendous heart and desire to win that you just can't teach. He is also one heck of a football player for South Caldwell and was a key reason they had such a great year last year. With Shane only being a rising Senior at South and most of the key players returning next year I would expect South to be the pre-season favorite to win the 4A State Championship next season in baseball.

The one game that I saw South Caldwell play this year, Shane was the player that struck me as their catalyst. IMO, he should be a lead off hitter. He is aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths.

It will be fun following his senior year.

Doug Jones South Mecklenburg Good defensive player, great bat, needs patience and learn how to lay-off the high heat.
Brent Lalas -South Mecklenburg- Great centerfielder, good bat, hits to all fields
Trey Moody- not used much this year, but good fastball 83-85, excellent breaking ball at 75mph.
