    Those were the days....

    • glove hanging on the handlebars of your bike
    • ball jammed between the tubular structure of the bike frame (mine had a perfect spot)
    • Bat over your shoulder while you pedaled and steered with one hand
    • breeze in your face
    • no one had ever heard of a "bat bag", except that heavy canvas one your coach had with all of the gear in it
    • Indian ball
    • home run derby
    • bases made out of burlap from feed bags with fine gravel in them
    • whiffle ball "leagues" with statistics (someone was anal retentive before we knew what that meant)
    • imitating the swings of the major leaguers while others guessed who you were doing
    • Spitting and hitting the spit with your bat before it hit the ground
    • No such thing as a lost ball....you just kept looking until you could find it
    • looking over all the gear at the hardware store and touching it, even though you did the same thing yesterday
    • ......and watching the World Series when you got home form school!

    4. Maybe if we had all of the fielders use the old five-finger gloves from back in the thirties then scouts could better judge their fielding ability, because if they can field with those then they ought to be totally awesome fielders with a modern glove......just kidding! Same logic though!

I still have one of those five finger gloves. It was given to me by my father-in-lawwhich was a hand-me-down to him. I still get it out and play some catch with it. Recently I brought it out & showed it to some of my sons college team mates, who were amazed that players used these "big pillows" for gloves. But, you would be surprised how well those gloves worked. A lot of padding and wonderful pocket to receive. I keep that glove and an old catchers mitt because I appreciate the history of the game; and because it is so cool!:pepper:

If you look real close between the 1st and 2nd digit of your glove, you will probably find a Prepster autograph near the laces. That's a keeper!

    Wood -the only way

As the parent of a pitcher who is also a hitter - WOOD is the only thing that baseball should be played with from the HS varsity level on up...... IMO.

Just a few of my observations:

ball speed off aluminum bat is faster - especially with the new composite bats (which, by the way, have been banned by the NCAA effective 2010 season until further notice)

pitchers era figures dont skyrocket because of HRs that would've been pop flies

doesn't reward the batter with a base hit with the same connection would've been an out with w/a woody.

wood shows who the true hitters are - smaller sweet spots, plus all the other comments posted by others.....

the game was meant to be played with wood -

and, if you need wood bats for a lower cost ($45 - $55) PM me, we can help.
