    Former Assistant Paul Knight is in the running for the job. PK is a great recruiter with an excellent baseball mind. If Wingate could get him it would be a step in the right direction.

    Coach Knight left Wingate and went to Florida Tech. Without knowing the record exactly, he stepped in to a program that was not good. He went down there and turned the program around, had a few kids drafted and finished this season 10 games over .500.

    Alumni stand up and let your opinion be known and lets help PK get hired at the GATE!

    That would be a great choice. I hope it happens quickly for him and the program.

    Paul Knight would be an excellent choice. Wingate had good pitching and with his knowledge, they could be even better. I hope he gets the job and can turn the program around.

    Wingate has two other coaches high on their list also. I think they will pick the one they think can recriut locally the best. I can not say who one of the coaches is, but Wingate can get one the best teacher/coach in the whole southeast. Hopefully they will..

    Now you have my interest. Early recruiting is not a big issue for the D2 schools, but there are still players patiently waiting for an offer this year and time is running out. They are interested in the program and the program is interested in them

    Missed Opportunity

    Wingate had the chance to get a a coach for the long haul after Coach Christopher retired. Mike Nicholson played at Bessemer City HS and Wingate. He was also a Wingate assistant. He became the pitching coach at Virginia Tech under Chuck Hartman. He came back to Wingate as an assistant, hopeing move into the head coach position after Coach Christopher. He was not hired. The job was given to Nash.

    Nicholson left Wingate and went north as a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He became head coach at DIII Clarkson University in upstate New York, leading Clarkson to their most successful seasons in school history.

    Currently he is the head coach at Seminole Community College near Orlando, Fla. He has taken Seminole to the JUCO World Series and produced many drafted players.

    It is a shame we lost this home-grown North Carolina coaching talent.
