Dirtbags and O's off to great starts with solid wins in Fri morning games. Ryan Morris with the CG for Dirtbags and Matt Andress with the win for the O's.

    O's

Andress (S Meck) pitched extremely well in Jupiter as the O's win 8-0 vs the Burger King Puerto Rico. Buchannan (N Gaston) in relief closes the door. Skidmore (S Meck) and Holcomb (Providence) w/ 2 hits each. Kirkpatrick (Char Christian) 2b. Bard (Char Christian) 3b.

To advance, teams will probably have to win their pool outright/go undefeated. There are 13 pools and 16 slots in the final rounds.

    Dirtbags 1st victory

Ryan Morris pitched 4 innings in the 88-91 range. Cudney (VA), and Lucas (FL) and Gilliam (NC) completed the pitching duties. Solid defense and timely hitting (helped by some errors) led to the victory.

Midland Redskins, Josh Thrailkill, pitched a whale of a game today against an extremely talented East Coast team

    WP: Josh Thrailkill (MR) 4 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 5 K's
    LP: Matt Harvey (ECG) 1 inning, 1 hit, 1 run, 2 K's
    SV: Reece Asbury (MR) 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 K

    RHP Brian Dupra (ECG) 5 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB's, 5 K's; 3B Ryan Dent (MR) 1-3, Rbi, SB

In perhaps the best pitched game of the event thus far, both in performance and prospect status, the Midland Redskins defeated East Coast Grays 1-0 on a run scoring single by 3B Ryan Dent in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Grays threw two 2007 pitchers, Brian Dupra and Matt Harvey who were both in the low 90's. Midland starter Josh Thrailkill was up to 93 mph, while reliever Reece Asbury pounded the strike zone with upper 80's sinkers.

The Dirtbags should have a little easier time tomorrow. The Colorado Slammers are pretty good, but DB is favored in both of their games tomorrow.

The key game for the NC teams is the On Deck O's vs Ohio Warhawks @ 12:40. This should be a great game. Who is starting for the O's..Layman? The winner of this game will probably win their pool.

The Braves Scout team is stout...already winning 2 games on their first day. Hank Conger has hit 2 HR's for the Braves...that is not common at Jupiter. Waiting to hear how Drew Poulk has done for the Braves.

Big games tomorrow...can't afford to lose one

Okay..I see that Matt Layman is pitching the 1st game and Jared Bard is throwing against the Ohio Warhawks...Good luck to both players and I'd love to see Jared shut them down.

    8AM saturday O's

Layman (S Meck) pitched a dandy 2 hit, complete game as the O's down the Crusaders 4-1. No multi hit games for the O's players but they had 6 or 7 singles and managed to string some together at key times.

    12:30 PM Sat O's

J Bard (Char Christian) pitched a complete game gem, shutting out national power, Ohio Warhawks with Jason Place (2/3). Though from Ohio, the Warhawks have no one from Ohio on the roster. Bard threw 90-92 early and finished in the upper 80's. A strong humid wind blowing in from right field stifled both offenses. W Skidmore (S Meck) and A Holcomb (Providence) continued with their hot bats, though neither team had an extra base hit. The difference was that the O's were able to capitalize on what few miscues the Warhawks made while Bard was able to overcome a few the O's made.

The win delivered the O's top slot in their pool and NC placed its first team in the final 16.

The Impact Dirtbags won 1-0 shortly afterwords and are likely to have won their pool - also advancing to the final 16.

Both teams have one game tomorrow morning remaining in pool play and begin the championship rounds Sunday afternoon.

The O's go through their pool 4-0...next up; team from Texas

    WP: Travis McConnell (O's) 5 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs, 0 BB's 6 K's

    CF Andy Holcomb (O's) 2-4, run, SB; LF Max Fulginiti (O's) 2-3, BB, 3 SB's, run; DH Jared Bard (O's) 1-4, HR, 2 Rbi's; 2B Tyler Kirkpatrick (O's) 2-4, 2 SB's, 2 runs; 3B Reid Rollison (O's) 1-3, BB, run, 2B, Rbi

I assume that Robby Bray will be starting the next game. What a good pick up for the O's
