Somebody is going to have to have a HOT pitcher to beat the East Cobb Astros. I don't like their program, but you have to admire their results. They won their pool scoring 45 runs and giving up.........0!

From now on, it's about the teams that have the most depth in pitching.

So far, the NC kids are enjoying a heckuva run. Midland Redskins, The O's, Braves Scout Team all won their pool and hopefully, the Dirtbags will win their game today to take their pool.

    Dirtbag win Pool

Dirtbags beat the Bellaire team 4-0 Sunday afternnon. Zach Greenwalt (07) threw the first 3 innings but had to leave to catch his flight home. Greg Holt (West Forsyth 07) threw the last 4 innings giving up 2 hits and stiking out 7. Dirtabgs will play Atlanta Braves Scout team Monday morning. Graham Stoneburner will be throwing for the Dirtbags.

    from my perch high above

I kid u not, i am 37g feet above the Aegean Sea headed toward some unexotic destination and able to check the web and see what is happening in Jupiter, kinda. It is hard to believe.

The Dirtbags got a tough draw. The Braves Scout Team are hand picked from across the country: as big a team as I've seen, not to mention fast and strong. I don't know anything about the SE Texas Sun Devils other than they are from around Beaumont, TX. I think the O's were the (#3 seed overall) and the Sun Devils came in 2nd behind the FL Hitmen (#2 seed overall) in their pool. At this point, I'm not sure that the seeds mean all that much.

For the O's right about now, I believe R Bray (Independence) is on the hill, with Hamilton Bennett (Ft Mill) slated for relief. Robbie was a great addition and a guy you know is an unflappable warrior. The story of the O's so far has been pitching and offensive execution. If they continue, they will be competetive and may just continue to sneak up on folks.

Some of the scores from the Round of 16 are filtering in now:
East Cobb Astros over Houston Heat 7-0
Chets Lemon Juice over Boomtown Prospects 16-1
PG USA White over PG USA/GA Stars 2-0
Florida Bombers over Orlando Scorpions 1-0
Midland Redskins over Florida Hitmen 4-2

No final yet for On Deck or the Dirtbags

East Cobb, Florida Bombers, Midland, Chets ... all of the usual suspects that you would expect to do well in a national competition. On Deck and Impact have moved into that category where you expect them to do well also on the national scene.

    WP: Jeff Lorick (ECA) 5 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 BB, 9 K's
LP: Jerad Stevens (HH) 1 inning

C Torre Langley (ECA) 2-2, 2B, 2 Rbi's, 2 runs, SB; SS Jonathan Merritt (ECA) 1-1, BB, Rbi, run, SB

The East Cobb Astros kept their perfect runs allowed mark in tact as LHP Jeff Lorick shut down the defending champion Houston Heat 7-0. The Astros scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning to put the game away and have now not allowed a run in 5 consecutive games.

    --------------
Previously, On Deck had the consecutive shutouts streak at this event, with 4, including one in the round of 16 and another in the round of 8 in the 2003 event.
