Bases loaded. One out. Fly ball caught in center field; two outs. Runner at 2nd didn't tag up. Runner at 3rd tags up and scores. Pitcher gets the ball, throws it to 2nd for the appeal; three outs. Does the run count? Why or why not?

    Run counts
Failure to tag up is NOT part of the 1st play like a force out would be. Once the ball was caught there are no forces left and the initial play is over then runs scored before the last out will count.

Yep, it is a timing play in this situation. As long as the run scores before the 3rd out is recorded, then it counts.

Yep, you're all correct. The run was allowed.

It was either the tying run or the go ahead run. It didn't matter, we won by one run.

I wonder how many runs have been lost because others aren't aware of that rule.

    Here's another

    Happened today...

    1 out
    runners on first and third
    short fly to left......
ball hits left fielders glove and deflects into shortstops glove.
Player on first tags upon first contact... runner on third does not move...
Ball thrown into first base, runner on first base called out for
    leaving early......

Umps missed it..... called her out, based on the timing of the actual catch, not first contact.

Possibly cost the team the game.... next kid hit a bomb, would have tied the score.

The umpire didn't know the rule (first contact) or misjudged when the player left the base?

The former is subject to protest, the latter is not.

    Correct...
This was not my game, one prior in a tournament...
I would have protested it immediately, but the coach never said a thing

    pays to know the rules

Absolutely. And so many don't, or "know" the rule wrongly (like this umpire).
