Just wondering if anyone else out there has put too much pressure on their son by being a young senior (17 1/2). I know I'm crying, but It never entered our mind when we started him in school early. We just thought he and his sister were ready. If I had only thought about that 12 years ago. With what the recruiting process what it has become the in the last 6 years, I feel like we have put him behind the eight ball so to speak. We certianly have never entertained the thought of "holding him back" though.......seems it has become a common practice for some. Dang.......:smash:

The lay of the land these days....

60 minutes did a special on starting kids late and/or holding them back....very interesting and much better for an athlete for sure! Just waiting until CLONING superstars becomes the norm in having kids. Yikes!

Whatever happened to starting kindergarten at 5......nap time after lunch and cheap afterschool rates or being able to just go home without the worry of something bad happening.....what parent can forecast 12 years down the road and whether or not their child will be a collegiate athlete in any sport.......

Mine is a "young" senior as well (July Bday) Never thought of holding him back to start Kindergarten....in the long run don't think it has hurt him. He has signed with a college where the coaches love him and is a great baseball school. Seems some colleges want the more mature player ASAP, where the pros like younger players (longevity) sometimes....I guess every situation is different. My grandson has a Sept Bday and I do want them to start him later because of the the trend though.....another good source of information on the subject is the book, Outliners by M. Galdwell

My oldest is only 8, but...
Mom and I have sat down and planned it out.
He can (will) actually start his senior year at age 18 and turn 19 that same year, after August.
    Two considerations:
1)He is currently homeschooled (by that time probably entered private or public school) and already in 3rd grade curriculum and ahead of level testing, but that is kind of irrelevant for later placement.
2)Depending on the fact that he (and younger ones to be considered later) will be more like mom (two sport "star") than me (two sport "great kid") athletically!
