A buddy of mine umping in Triple A ball called a ball on a pitch that was right down the middle. Pitcher walked down and asked if it was High? Ump said "NO". Well was it low? "NO". Well, inside? "NO". Outside? "NO, but throw some more just like it. I won't miss em all."

Same ump rang up a guy who promptly threw his bat as high in the air as he possibly could. My buddy told him, "Son, if that bat comes down, you're out of this game!"

when i was an assistant coach, we had a pitcher who had maybe 1 hit for his career. as a senior he was pumped up to start the season and was talking to the head coach about hitting. he ask the head coach what he needed to do and was answered with find the lightest bat you can find. the player then stated, you think that might help me with bat speed? and the coach responded.... don't know, but it will be lighter to carry back to the bench. thought i was going to die laughing.

Again, back in little league days, I was watching a game being coached by a good friend with his team at bat. The batter got plunked in the helmet by a pitch and afterwards stood in the batters box, unhurt but in an apparent daze. The batter looked at my friend in the third base coaches box and he calmly told the kid to "run down to first and answer the phone".

I was always fond of the one describing Cool Papa Bell.

"He's so fast that he can cut out the lights and be in bed before its dark."
